Course 1: Leadership Tools 101

As a leader within an organisation, there are many elements which contribute to good leadership. Leadership involves establishing a clear vision and sharing that vision, by providing the information, knowledge and methods to realise that vision, whilst coordinating and balancing the interests of all stakeholders.

The following Leadership Tool Skill Set has been designed to provide new skills and tools, with a refresh underpinning knowledge, to assist in understanding and breakdown each component of these leadership areas.

Learning Outcomes

Module 1: Leadership

• Explain what leadership is
• Understanding the difference
• Outline the most common leadership theories
• Summary of the different leadership styles
• Identify the key skills leaders need for success

Module 2: Engaging and Motivating employees

• Explain what employee engagement and employee motivation are
• Recognise the benefits of having engaged and motivated employees
• Identify the three levels of engagement
• Discuss ways to increase engagement
• Identify and discuss the motivational drivers of different employees
• Discuss ways to motivate different types of employees

Module 3: Building and Managing Teams

• List the stages of team development
• Name the characteristics of each stage
•  Understand your role as manager at each stage

Module 4: Making Decisions

• Explain what decision making is
• Describe your responsibilities in relation to making decisions
• Discuss the process for making decisions

Module 5: Running Effective Meetings

• Recognise what makes a meeting effective
• Explain how to establish the objective of a meeting
• Recognise what arrangements you need to make before a meeting
• Discuss how to prepare a meeting agenda
• Explain what you should do during a meeting
• Discuss how to prepare meeting minutes
