There are going to be times in your journey as a leader where you will invariably find yourself having to deal with workplace conflict or required to manage a difficult situation. This can be very stressful and there are enormous mental, physical and psychological pressures as a manager leading a team people.

 

The following Leadership Tool Skill Set has been designed to provide new skills and tools, with a refresh underpinning knowledge, to assist in understanding and breakdown each component of these leadership areas.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

Module 1: Emotional Intelligence in Leadership

  • Define emotional intelligence
  • Define and discuss what emotions are
  •  Discuss the different elements of emotional intelligence and identify how you can improve your skills in these areas.

 

Module 2: Change management

  •  Discuss change in the workplace and how it should be managed
  • Identify the various reactions that individuals may have to change
  • Explain the aspects of your role during change initiatives

 

Module 3: Managing difficult situations

  • Identify a difficult situation
  • Discuss how to prepare for a difficult conversation
  • Explain how to have a difficult conversation
  • Describe how you would manage emotions when handling difficult situations

 

Module 4: Mentoring workplace conflict

  • Describe the nature and causes of conflicts
  • Understanding your responsibilities in relation to managing conflicts
  • Explain the different types of conflicts
  • Identify the stages of conflict, including the early warning signs of conflict
  • Recognise how people respond to conflict
  • Understand when conflict escalates to bullying
  • Demonstrate how to prevent and manage conflict

 

Module 5: Managing the discipline process

  • State the purposes of staff discipline
  • Acknowledge your responsibilities in relation to staff discipline
  • Explain the causes of misconduct
  • Discuss the types of misconduct
  • Understanding how to investigate misconduct
  • Apply the disciplinary process
  • Identify when to resort to formal discipline as opposed to informal discipline
  • Hold constructive disciplinary meetings with staff
  • Prepare disciplinary documentation
